MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF (RUBIACEAE) SEEDS AND SEEDLINGS Genipa americana L.

The objective of this work were the morphological characterization of seeds and seedlings
of Genipa americana L. Samples were collected from Curuça City, Pará State, Brazil. Longitudinal and
transversal slices were used for the morphological description of the seeds. Studies of germination were
made to the ilustration and the morphological description of the seedlings development phases. The
seeds are anatropous deltoid bitegumented, wiht the tegument covering all the seeds except of the
chalaza region; external tegument with dark-brown coloration. The embryo is axial, continuous, spatulate,
with foliaceous and photosyntesised cotyleadons. The germination is epigeal and seedlings are
fanerocotiledonarious.
