This work aimed to determine the best temperature and substrate to subject passiflora seeds to the germination test. Three experiments were undertaken: greenhouse, 25°C at germinator and 20-30°C at germinator. Treatments evaluated on each experiment were the followings: tray (between Plantmax® substrate), paper roll (Germitest®); gerbox (over germitest® paper). Experiments were undertaken following the completely randomized design and treatments were replicated eight times. Germination was evaluated each seven days until to 28 days by determining percentages of normal seedlings, deformed and deteriorated abnormal seedlings, and of hard and dead seeds. It was concluded that: the best temperature for passiflora germination, is the alternated temperature between 20-30°C, in substrate of paper roll; the temperature constant at 25°C is not recommended to perform passiflora seed germination test, once at such temperature, a greater percentage of hard and dead seeds was observed, regardless of substrate used; and the substrate over paper on gerbox was shown inappropriate as a greater percentage of deformed and deteriorated abnormal plantets were observed.
