PIGEONPEA (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) SEED PROCESSING EVALUATION

The physic and physiologic qualities of pigeonpea seeds were evaluated after processing with the gravity table (MVP) and the fan machine and sieves (MVP), because there is very little information with this species. The experiment was carried out with a dwarf pigeonpea (IAPAR 43 - Aratã) seed lot produced in 1996 at the Experimental Station of Vila Velha (Paraná Agronomic Institute - IAPAR), in Ponta Grossa/Paraná/Brazil. The treatments were: (T - check) original material without processing: (MVP) material selected after passage through the fan machine and sieves; (MVP + MGS) material selected after passage through the fan machine and sieves, and collected in the superior discharge of the gravity table: (MVP + MGINT) material selected in the fan machine and sieves, and collected in the intermediary discharge of the gravity table; (MVP + MGINF) material selected in the fan machine and sieves, and collected in the inferior discharge of the gravity table; (MGS) material not submitted to the fan machine and sieves, and collected in the superior discharge of the gravity table; (MGINT) material not submitted to the fan machine and sieves, and collected in the intermediary discharge of the gravity table; (MGINF) material not submitted to the fan machine and sieves, and collected in the inferior discharge of the gravity table. The physic and physiologic qualities were evaluated by purity, thousand seed weight, germination and vigor (artificial aging) tests. The conclusion are that the gravity table, separately or in association with the fan machine and sieves, improve the physical and physiologic quality of pigeonpea seed lot. The exclusive use of the fan machine and sieves do not interfere qualitatively in the lot processed.
