The present work aimed tu define the field and the spikelet maturities of Lolium multiflorum Lam. seeds. Two experiments were carried out under field conditions during 1993, in Botucatu, SP, Brazil. The sowing was made in June. The field maturity of seeds was evaluated by weekly harvests, beginning at total emergence of the spikes. The spikelet maturation was estudied at two harvests date (10.28.93 and 11.04.93). After harvest, the spikelets with similar color were grouped and evaluated. Based on the dry matter accumulation and the germination percentage of the seeds, it was concluded that: a) the field maturity of the seeds was reached around 35 days after 100% of spikes emergence of the fields; at this stage, the field presented a few percentage of green spikes (8%), predominance of partial or totally light yellow spikes and the seeds with 35% of moisture; b) the maturity of the seeds in the spikelet was reached when the color of the glumes was light yellow, the seeds were at farinaceus stage to semi-hard, with black color and 30 to 35% of moisture.
