QUICK EVALUATION OF THE PHYSIOLOGIC QUALITY OF PEA SEEDS
ELAINE GONÇALVES RECH, FRANCISCO AMARAL VILLELA E MARIA ÂNGELA ANDRÉ TILLMANN
The objective of the present work was to study the relative efficiency of different fast tests in the evaluation of the physiologic quality of pea seeds (Pisum sativum L.). Coducten in the Didactic Laboratory of Seeds Analysis and in the Experimental Field of the Department of Fitotecnia of the Faculdade de Agronomia Eliseu Maciel of the Federal University of Pelotas, using two lots of seed lots of the cultivars Max 40 and Creole. Three sub samples of each lot were stored in three different conditions: Ambient (T=16 - 30oC and HR=60 - 95%), chamber (T=10oC and HR= 45%) and chamber/ambient. The seeds were stored by six months (April to September of 1998) they were appraised, in the beginning and end of the experimental period, by means of the following determinations: moisture content, germination, electrical conductivy, tetrazolium, field emergence, exsudate pH of the bulk and individually seed exsudate, these two last driven with of imbibition periods of 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. The analysis of the data and the interpretation of the results, they allowed to end that: the tests of the exsudate pH of the individually with 30 minutes of imbibition permit to prize with quickness the viability of seed pea; the tetrazolium and conductivity tests are efficient in the quick evaluation of physiological quality of pea seeds; the test of the pH of bulk seed, exsudate correlates with vigour of pea seeds, however needs improvement.
