CARROT SEED QUALITY PRODUCED IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY UMBELS FROM RIO GRANDE DO SUL STATE

Seven carrot seed samples cv. Brasília, from three counties (Bagé, Candiota and Hulha Negra) with conpound Bagé,s/RS, Brazil Geo-economics Region, were separated as to localization in primary and secondary umbels and evaluated about quality. The tests used for evaluation were: germination, first count germination, speed emergence, emergence at 21 days, sanity, thousand seed wheight and seed number per gram. Seed health was evaluated in blotter test, using 400 seeds per sample, individualy evaluated under stereomicroscope, and spores precipitation for centrifugation using seed wash and spores count in Neubauer chamber. The results indicate that: the seed quality from primary umbels were higher than secondary umbels; carrot seeds quality produced in Bagé, Candiota e Hulha Negra were affected by Alternaria dauci, A. radicina and A. alternata.
