The objective of this experiment was to study the use of controlled deterioration test to evaluate the seed vigor of broccoli (Brassica oleraceae - var. italica) and to observe it?s efficiency in relation of accelerated ageing test, speed of germination index, seedling length and first germination count. Four seeds lots in different levels of vigor of broccoli cv. Piracicaba Precoce were tested. Three temperatures (40, 42 and 44ºC) and three moistures content (20, 21 and 22%) were tested to obtain the best relationship between temperature and moisture content that have to be used in controlled deterioration test for broccoli. All seeds lots were evaluated using germination and vigor (accelerated ageing test, germination speed index, seedling length and first germination count) tests. The results allowed the following conclusions: controlled deterioration test was efficient to determine different levels seeds vigor for broccoli; accelerated ageing and controlled deterioration tests had similar germinations results; in the controlled deterioration test for broccoli was possible to use the best proposed combination between temperature and moisture content.
