PAPAYA (Carica papaya L.) SEEDS CONSERVATION IN FUNCTION OF THE DEGREE OF HUMIDITY, TYPE OF PACKING AND AMBIENT OF STORAGE

The work was accomplished with the objective of evaluating the effect of the degree of humidity of the seed, of the packing type and of the storage atmosphere in the conservation of papaya seeds. The seeds were conditioned with three moisture content (7.2; 9.3 and 11.3%), in packings of the type of flexible aluminum and paper bag and, submitted to the storage in laboratory atmosphere (27ºC and 83%RH), chamber to 20ºC and 69%RH and cold chamber to 10ºC and 63%RH. The seeds were submitted to the determination of the humidity degree bimonthly and to the germination test and vigor (first germination count test and accelerated aging). Dormancy of papaya seeds was overcomed by storage for two months, independent of the atmosphere, packing and moisture content of the seeds.
