MORPHOLOGY OF SEEDS AND SEEDLINGS OF PAU-TERRA (Qualea grandiflora Mart. ? VOCHYSIACEAE)

ROBÉRIO ANASTÁCIO FERREIRA, ANTONIO CLAUDIO DAVIDE E OLÍVIA ALVINA OLIVEIRA TONETTI

Morphological studies are very important in taxonomy as well as to ecological
studies of the species. The objectives of this work were to describe and to illustrate the external
and internal aspects of seeds, and germination and seedlings phases of pau-terra (Qualea grandilfora
Mart.). The seed is winged, the embryo is axial with cotyledon involved; the germination is
phanecotylar-epigeous and in the seedlings phase were observed glands near the cotyledons. The
aspects described and illustrated were very homogeneous and trustable to identify the species.
Therefore, can be used in seed technology works, to evaluate the physiological seed quality and
seedlings in germination tests, to identify the species in nursery and natural regeneration studies
too.
