ACCELERATED AGING TEST FOR SORGHUM SEEDS
DENISE MESA DE MIRANDA, ANA DIONISIA DA LUZ COELHO NOVEMBRE EHELENA MARIA CARMIGNANI PESCARIN CHAMMA
The accelerated aging is one of the most frequently used for the evaluation of seed
vigor but is less studied for testing sorghum seeds. Thus this research examined the efficacy of the
exposure of five lots of sorghum seeds, cv. Zeneca 822, to four temperatures and four aging
periods (41°C/72 and 96 hours; 43 and 45°C/24, 48, 72 and 96 hours; 47°C/24, 48 and 72 hours).
Results showed that accelerated aging test identified differences between seed lots of high and
low physiological quality. It was verified that the best combinations between temperature and
aging period were 41°C/96 hours and 43°C/72 hours; after those mentioned accelerated aging
conditions seed water contents reached values from 24,6 and 23,9%, respectively.
