OSMOTIC POTENTIALS OF AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS OF POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL 8000

FRANCISCO AMARAL VILLELA E OSMAR PAULO BECKERT,

To determinate the polyethylene glycol (PEG) 8000 concentration required for
establishment of specific osmotic potential and temperature, the aplication of empirical equation
developed for aqueous solutions of PEG 6000 cause differences in the prediction of osmotic
potential. A table was developed relationing osmotic potential and temperature with polyethylene
glycol 8000 concentration. Differences among osmotic potentials predicted by equation for PEG
8000 and PEG 6000 can be of 20% at the lowest temperatures and concentrations.
