CONTROL OF ASSOCIATED FUNGI IN TOMATO SEEDS USING THERMOTHERAPY
MARLOVE FATIMA BRIÃO MUNIZ
This work aimed to test the efficiency of dry heat treatment on the control of seed
transmited pathogens and its effects on the viability of tomato seeds. Poor quality seeds lots were
treated at 70ºC, for 4, 8, 12 and 15 days. Checks consisted of: hot water treatment (50ºC for 30
minutes); chemical treatment (Rhodiuran 250g/100kg seeds) and no treatment. Evaluations were
done in germination percentage and seed health tests in laboratory and emergence speed, plant
height and root length, in greenhouse. The experiments were conducted in randomized blocks,
with four replications. Dry heat treatment controled fungi associated to tomato seeds; the dry heat
at 70ºC, during 12 days, erradicated fungi associated to tomato seeds and thiran is not effective in
erradication of fungi associated with tomato seeds.
