GERMINATION OF Adenanthera pavonina L. SEEDS: POLYAMINES EFFECTS ON SALT STRESS ATENUATION

This work was carried out to observe salts effects on the germination and polyamines
effects on salt stress atenuation. Adenanthera pavonina seeds were scarified with H2SO4 during
20 minutes and washed in distilled water. The experiments were conducted with different salt
solutions (KCl, NaCl and CaCl2) at several concentrations (0.0; -0.2; -0.4; -0.6; -0.8; -1.0;
-1.2; -1.4; -1.5MPa). Later, solutions of putrescine (100ppm) and espermidine (100ppm) were
done at same potentials. The tests were conducted at temperature of 30oC. A significant reduction
in the germinability and rate were observed when the salt concentrations were increased. KCl is
more toxic than NaCl, which is more toxic than CaCl2. Polyamines did not atenuatted the salts
stress.
