With the advent of Cultivar Protection Law, studies of cultivar identification and
genetic purity certification are needed to find stable describers. This research aimed study the
genetic similarity among six cultivars of carioca bean seed: Carioca, Carioca MG, Aporé, Pérola,
IAPAR 57 and IAPAR 81. The project was conducted at experimental area and Seed Analysis
Laboratory at the Federal University of Lavras. The studied morphological traits were described
in Cultivar Protection Law. For the quantitative morphological traits, the Media Euclidiane Distance
was estimated which separated the cultivars in two groups: I) Carioca, Carioca MG, Aporé and
IAPAR 57; II) Pérola, IAPAR 81. The weight of 1000 seeds discriminated the six cultivars. With
the data regarding qualitative morphological traits, the genetic similarity was estimated by Jaccard
coeficient which separated the cultivars in two groups: I) Carioca, Carioca MG, Aporé, Pérola
and IAPAR 57; II) IAPAR 81. The cultivar IAPAR 57 showed cotiledons and stem with antocianine,
the cultivar IAPAR 81 showed stem with antocianine and dry pods with sharp tops and straight
apical tooth, the cultivar Aporé showed seeds with yellow halo. From RAPD markers, four of the
six bean cultivar were discriminated by OP-B04, OP-B08 and OP-B11.
