THE SIZE OF CORN SEEDS FROM LOTS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET

JOSÉ WALTER PEDROZA CARNEIRO, TEREZINHA APARECIDA GUEDES E DENILSON AMARAL

The experiment was carried out to verify the size of seeds available on the market.
The individual length, the width and thickness was taken from one hundred seeds. The data set
were fit to Normal, Lognormal, Gumbel and Weibull probability density distribution and the estimate
of the numerical value of the loglikelihood was used as the goodness-of-fit test. The asymetry in
some data set from the seed length had the best fit to the Weibull and Gumbel distribution. The
best fit, depending on the data set, was achieved by Lognormal and Gumbel distribution for seed
width. Only the seed thickness data set had no fit to the Normal distribution. The samples had
seeds with dimensions lower than the value specified in the seed bag.
