JOÃO MARCOS DA CUNHA OSWALDO PEREIRA GODOY MAGNO ANTÔNIO PATTO RAMALHO DENISE CUNHA FERNANDES

Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) "Rico 23"seeds, were separated into four classes according to their density using sucrose solutions of 1.225, 1.250, 1.275, 1.300 and 1.235 densities. Seeds of the four dendity classes and thise of the unselected, control treatment, were planted in different conditions and soil types: in a sandy soil in Piracicaba, São Paulo State; in a dark red latossoil in Pato de Minas and in dark red latossoil "Cerrado"fase in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais State, with the objective of obtaining data relative to production per area. The results of analyses carried out under the prevailing conditions led to the conclusion that higher productivity for unit area con be obtained by using seeds with dendity above 1.275.
