EFFECT OF THIABENDAZOL FUNGICIDE TREATMENT ON SOYBEAN SEED

TABAJARA ROSA DE MIRANDA; FERNANDO A. SOUZA

The goal of this research was to study the effect of fungicide
treatment on soybean lots with different germination rates, attempting the use, due
to a situation of emergency during the soybean growing season of 1979, of seed
lotes with germination under 80%. Seed lots from the cultivars Bragg, Davis and
Paraná with germination between 71-75% (Lot l), 76-80 (Lot 2), 81-85 (Lot 3) and
86-90% (Lot 4) were used in the experiment. Treatments were with and without
application of the fungicide Thiabendazol (Tecto), in the rate of 150g of the
commercial product by 100kg of seed, as it is recomendad by the chemical
1 Engos Agros, Mestres, CEP-FECOTRIGO, Cx. Postal 10, Cruz Alta, RS
company. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with split-split
plots. Mean comparisons were done using the Tukey test at 5% level. The
treatment of soybean seed with the fungicide Thiabendazol (Tecto) improved
significantly the germination of seed lots with values between 70 and 80%;
germination over 83% showed a tendency to increase, but this was not statistically
significantly.
