GERMINATION TEMPERATURE FOR MALVA (Urena lobata L.) SEED

FRANCISCO JOSÉ CÂMARA FIGUEIREDO; FLAVIO POPINIGIS

The present study was carried to find out the best temperature to germinate Urena lobata L. seeds under laboratory conditions, since there are no prescriptions in the Rules for Seed Testing. Seeds were placed to germinate under both presence or absence of light and temperatures of 20o, 25o, 30o and 35o and 20o-30o and 20o-35oC alternated. The highest percentage of normal seedlings and the least of abnormal ones, as well as the highest sneed of seedling growth under either presence or absence of light, was obtained when the germination test was conducted under the constant temperature of 30oc. The weight of 35g is suggested as the mininum for the working sample to be used for the purity test in laboratory seed testing.
